Eugene is a runner's paradise. From the meandering beauty of "Pre's Trail" to the raucous atmosphere of a meet at Hayward Field, a wealth of story ideas emerge from this region known as the "Track Capital of America." Eugene's numerous trails, diverse terrain and mild climate draw many well-known athletes from around the world to live, train and compete here.

Sports Illustrated says "Eugene is an outdoor enthusiast's mecca." Runner's World rated Eugene as one of their "10 Best Running Cities."

Truffle Shuffle
The traditional pre-Valentine's Day running celebration in Eugene, featuring a 4 mile and 2 mile run or walk, benefiting the Committed Partners for Youth Bolder Options mentoring program - plus, participants receive a chocolate truffle at the finish! Held every February at Alton Baker Park. This is Eugene's third largest road race. Run 4 miles, walk/run 2 miles, or enjoy the Kids Fun Run.

The 4 mile and 2 mile events are flat, fast and scenic, starting and finishing near the pavilions. The courses follow park roads and bike paths through the park, along the Willamette River.

Run for the Shamrock
A St. Patrick's Day tradition in Eugene for 32 years! The Run for the Shamrock is hosted by the Sheldon "Irish" High School Track and Field Team and proceeds go to the program. There are two distances to choose from. The courses for the 10 kilometer run (6.2 miles) and the 5 kilometer run/walk (3.1 miles) both cross the Willamette river twice and use bike paths.

There are prizes for Age Group winners (five year age groups beginning at 15 years-old) in the 10k race and prizes for the overall (Male and Female) winners in the 5k run. There will be a prize drawing for all race entrants. Entry fees: $20 with t-shirt through March 13, 2009; $15 without shirt. Day of race is $5 more.

Eugene Marathon
The 3rd annual Eugene Marathon will be held on May 3, 2009! This premier distance running & walking event in 'track town USA' includes a marathon, half-marathon, 5K and Kids Marathon. The marathon and half marathon courses are beautiful, flat and fast - taking participants by numerous parks and miles of riverfront trails. Come to Eugene, OR and run in the footsteps of LEGENDS.

In only our second year, we've been recognized by Runner's World as one of their Top 10 Greenest Races. Thank you to all of our volunteers and sponsors - especially Waste Free Oregon - who helped us divert loads of waste and take big strides to keeping our city green.

Rippling River Run
A Eugene classic, featuring great scenery and a great cause. This event is a 15K (9.3 mile) run and an 8K (4.97 mile) run.

The courses start and finish at EWEB Plaza, follow the Willamette River bike paths and loops through Alton Baker Park. Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, the top male and female masters runners and top male and female walkers in each race. All participants will be also be eligible for random prize drawings.

Oregon Marathon Relay
It's been a running tradition in the Eugene area for decades and in 2009 this classic event will have a new look. Marathon relay teams can have 2-6 members, covering legs of: 10K, 5K, 7K, 5K, 10K and 5K. Half marahton relay teams can be comprised of 2 or 3 members, covering legs of: 10K, 5K and 6K. There will also be an open 10K race which will be run in conjunction with the first leg of the relays. The loop course will be flat, fast, scenic and great for spectating.

All events will be held on a 5K loop course along the bike paths, starting and finishing at EWEB Plaza. The course crosses the Willamette River via the Autzen and Defazio bridges. Participants in the 10K run or covering a 10K leg of a relay will run or walk the 5K loop twice. Team members covering the 6K or 7K relay legs will complete the 5K loop course in addition to a short out and back section on Day Island Road.

Bark In The Park
This is the traditional fund-raising event for the Greenhill Humane Society, and it's back in Alton Baker Park! Come run or walk alone, or bring your furry companion to accompany you on your trek. There will also be dog performance exhibitions and fun for the entire family.

This event features a 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk and a 2K (1.2 miles) walk. The 5K and 2K courses are flat, fast and scenic, through Alton Baker Park, on the bike paths adjacent to the Willamette River.

Ridgeline Ramble
This 3rd Annual classic covers the entirety of the Ridgeline Trail in Eugene on Memorial Day. This year's event is limited to 200 participants in each of the 20K and 10K races and 50 relay teams in the 20K. Awards will be presented in the 20K and 10K to the top three overall male and female finishers and the top three in each age group and the top three teams in each division and category. All participants will be eligible for random prize drawings.

The 20K course will be the same as in 2008. The 20K and 10K courses are approximately 80% trail and dirt roads, with the rest on paved streets. The trails are hard packed dirt and bark chip, with minimal rocks and roots. The 20K has a 459' drop in net elevation from start to finish, while the 10K drops 341' from start to finish. The Relay Exchange point is the same as the 10K start location. The 20K starts at the Ridgeline Trailhead on Blanton Road, while the 10K starts at the Fox Hollow Trailhead.

Eugene Challenge Mile
Presented by Eugene Running Company, this is the 5th running of the only road mile race in the region throughout the year. This year, the event will feature various waves for all ages and abilities. The Men's and Women's Open races are open to everyone and will also feature elite runners. The Recreational division is intended for the less-competitive runners and walkers accepting the challenge of participating in a road mile. The Youth race is open to all competitors ages 18 and under, and the Masters race is open to all participants 40 and over. This event features a 1 mile and Kids 200 meter fun run.

Again in 2009, the flat and fast road mile course will start at 5th & Pearl, proceed west to Charnelton, north to 4th Street, west to Lawrence, south to 5th Street and return to the finish at 5th & Pearl.
