Keeping Eugene Unique:

One of the things that makes Eugene so unique is it's strong community of shops, businesses and boutiques that create a network of local shopping that runs throughout the city. Downtown Eugene has many locally owned shops, some established a half century or more ago.

Independent retailers in Eugene have banded together to promote the idea of shopping at locally owned stores. From clothes to books, antiques to modern items, candy to art, bicyles to music, organic to outdoors...there is something here for everyone. And most of these stores are all within walking distance from downtown Eugene. And no sales tax makes shopping in Eugene a real treat!

Below is an overview of some of the market areas and community orginazations all working together to make Eugene very unique!

Downtown Eugene
Downtown is the central resource area for business and shops. Over 400 businesses are nestled into the Downtown Services District, with more extending north to the Willamette River.

Many of these businesses are locally-owned, and consist of unique retail, restaurants and professional services.

It's a great way to spend a day, walking and visiting all the unique stores and boutiques, and in between, stopping for a nice meal at any of the nice restaurants located downtown.

Fifth Street Public Market
The restaurants and shops in the Fifth Street Public Market in downtown Eugene are thriving. Besides robust sales, over the last couple of years the market has renovated its fountain, added a mural, expanded parking and remodeled storefronts.

The market opened in 1976 inside its current building that was constructed in 1929. The Eugene Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau has named the market as a premier tourist attraction within the city.

It features cafes, restaurants, fashion shops, gift stores, specialty foods and offices, and the courtyard and balconies are ideal for watching local musicians and artisans. Fifth Street Public Market also offers free wireless Internet connectivity.
