Alpine Trail
An epic gravel road climb followed by an even more epic single-track descent. Great views and miles of smooth trail reward those willing to do the gravel. The route described here is 1/3 of the Cascades CreamPuff 100. A 100 mile race held in Oakridge every July. Drinking water is available at a water fountain near the red covered bridge. After the ride, cool off with a swim in the North Fork. There is a great swimming hole 3.3 miles upriver from the red covered bridge on USFS #19.

From Eugene, OR Drive SE on Hwy 58 approximately 30 miles. Turn right off of the Highway to go to Westfir. Cross a green steel bridge and turn left. Continue for apporximately 2 miles and park across from the big red covered bridge in Westfir. Time from Eugene: approx: 45 min.

Oakridge
Length Of Ride:
33 Miles

Alton Baker Park
Just across the Willamette River from downtown, the 400-acre Alton Baker Park is home to a world-class running trail, the Science Factory/Planetarium complex, gardens, ponds, picnic areas, a canoe canal, and part of a very cool scale model of the solar system located throughout the park long the trail. The western part of the park is more developed; to the east it includes the 237-acre Whilamut Natural Area.

Especially appealing and easy to get to is the Willamette River Bike Trail, a six-mile pathway running east-west on both sides of the river, which takes in parts of Skinner Butte Park and Alton Baker Park.

Reach Alton Baker Park from downtown by taking the Ferry Street Bridge and turning right just after crossing the river; if you're on foot, the Peter DeFazio footbridge is right by the Ferry Street Bridge, and is an easy walk from the Fifth Street Market area. From the U. of O. area, walk or bike across the Autzen Bike Bridge to the park.

Brice Creek Trail
Brice Creek Trail follows the north bank of Brice Creek through lush moss covered ancient forests and steep exposed rock outcroppings. Watch for the inviting swimming holes along the way. The trail surface is somewhat rocky and technical in spots. Carry your bike over the stream crossings rather than riding through them. The east end of the trail follows an old mining ditch.

To get to Brice Creek take the Cottage Grove/Dorena exit off of I-5. Follow the signs east toward Dorena, Culp Creek, and Disston and onto Brice Creek Road. Brice Creek trailhead is on the left about 0.75 mile past the Umpqua National Forest sign.

Location:
Cottage Grove
Length Of Ride:
11 Miles
Physical Difficulty:
Easy - Moderate

Cascade Cream Puff
Calling itself "America's Toughest 100-Mile Mountain Bike Race," the 50% singletrack race is not for cream puffs in the least bit. This event includes about 16,000 feet of climbing and is a real vertical and downhill test for all starters.

A group of hard working individuals that help bring you the puff year after year. Trailwork, event prep, food, markers, support, cleanup, you name it and this group helps to get the job done. Thank them when you see them at the event, and you can always ask for assistance or general course knowledge during the race.

Location:
Oakridge
Length Of Ride:
100 Miles
Physical Difficulty:

Crawfish Trail
This trial has a 3400 foot climb, but strap your helmet on and prepare for a exciting technical descent. This narrow trail will test the switchback skills of even the most advanced riders.

Drive to Brice Creek Road 22. Park at the Cedar Creek Campground trailhead. Ride west 0.25 miles to Adams Mountain Road #2241 and begin the long, slow climb. The road is generally smooth and hard, and the unsightly clearcuts along the way allow for rewarding views of your advance into the sky. On a small ridge top just below the summit of Adams Mountain, a spur road (#761) takes off to the right toward the summit, and turns into Knott Trail, a single-track on the way to the top. If you're just too tired to go the extra 500 feet to the peak, continue straight on Adams Mountain Road. Pick up Crawfish Trail in less than a mile.

Cottage Grove
Length Of Ride:
12 Miles

Elijah Bristow State Park
Elijah Bristow State Park is an excellent mountain bike destination that is only minutes away from Eugene. The park has 10 miles of single-track riding. Though rocky in some areas, the trails are mostly easy, which makes it perfect for beginners and children. The scenery changes from forest, to grassy meadow, to the banks of the Willamette River. This park is a great place for a summer afternoon mountain bike ride, picnic, and swim.

To find the park, take Highway 58 east toward Lowell. Once past Pleasant Hill, keep an eye out for the Elijah Bristow State Park sign, 8.5 miles from I-5. Take the left off the highway; at the stop sign, turn right onto Immigrant Road. The horse parking lot is 0.3 miles down Immigrant. You can park here, or continue to the main entrance a short distance beyond. There are several possible loops to ride. All the routes eventually circle back to the main road.

Eugene
Length Of Ride:
10 Miles

Fairview Peak
Taking a ride up Fairview Peak is well worth the 4000 foot climb as it provides a reflective journey back to the early mining days when the now ghost town of Bohemia City was alive and well with prospectors and prosperity. The area which had a hotel, stores and a Post Office, was named after a immigrant miner, James "Bohemia" Johnson who discovered gold here in 1863.

To get there you drive to Brice Creek Road 22. Follow Brice Creek past Cedar Creek, Lund Park and Hobo Campgrounds. Park 1 mile past Hobo Camp at the intersection of Road 22 and Champion Creek Road. Be sure to carry plenty of water; there is no dependable water source on this long ride.

Cottage Grove
Length Of Ride:
27 Miles

GEARs
The Greater Eugene Area Riders is a non-profit organization with the mission to promote bicycling both for recreation and transportation. We coordinate weekly rides, provide safety and skill education, defend the rights and responsibilities of bike riders, and work to enhance the bicycle culture in Eugene and surrounding area. Membership in GEARs has its rewards! In addition to all of the rides and advocacy work we do, there are additional benefits. Local bike shops and other businesses are now offering discounts for GEARs members.

GEARs was first organized in 1991 to promote recreational bicycling and community bicycle activities. The Eugene Bicycle Coalition was organized in 1995 to promote bicycling as a vital part of Eugene's transportation system. In January 2008, the two groups merged into what GEARs is today.

McKenzie River Trail
Deep, rich forests, a beautiful wild river, lava beds, and unique surprises, await the mountain biker on the McKenzie River Trail. The trail weaves, bobs and curves through the trees along the bank of the majestic river; a sheer joy to ride. The trail's beauty and easy access also make it a very popular trail with hikers. In fact, this trail is the most politically sensitive ride in the book in terms of potential user conflict. The Eugene Mountain Bike Resource Group has worked with land managers to assure continued mountain bike access on the McKenzie River Trail. Ride responsibly so that mountain bikers can continue to enjoy this experience! Future complaints of reckless riding could close this trail. This is not a ride to test your control at high speed; instead, approach it as scenic peaceful glide through the trees.

McKenzie Bridge
Length Of Ride:
15 Miles
Physical Difficulty:
Easy - Moderate
