2010 OBF Event Details

Under the artistic leadership of Helmuth Rilling, the OBF fills 19 refreshing summer days with choral-orchestral masterworks, guest artists, chamber music, social events, and education programs. We're based in Eugene, with many events on the University of Oregon campus. Additional concerts take place in Portland and Bend.
The Oregon Bach Festival's 40th season takes place June 25-July 12, 2010 in Eugene, Bend and Portland, Oregon. Tickets are now on sale. "There's a whole world of musical experiences on offer," said John Evans, OBF president and executive director. Savor a night of sophisticated style with Pink Martini. With distinctive vocals by China Forbes and arrangements by pianist Thomas Lauderdale, the band stirs a flavorful blend of classical, jazz, Latin and pop spiked with quirky original lyrics. Set the date for our opening Saturday night and hear why this Portland-based band has earned an adoring worldwide following. Pink Martini's debut album Sympathique was released independently in 1997 on the band's own label Heinz Records (named after Lauderdale's dog), and quickly became an international phenomenon, garnering the group nominations for "Song of the Year"and "Best New Artist"in France's Victoires de la Musique Awards in 2000. The 13th annual Pacific International Children's Choir Festival culminates with a spectacular concert featuring 180 young singers, under the direction renowned guest conductor Lynne Gackle and artistic director Peter Robb. The festival chorus, composed of five treble choirs and two young men's choirs from California, Minnesota, Washington, Arizona, and Oregon, presents a colorful program of music from Bach to Billy (Joel) that will inspire and excite audience members. Bach's BWV 34 ("O eternal fire, o source of love") offers sublimely beautiful arias and full-scale choral passages. BWV 131 ("From the depths I call to thee, Lord") enthralls with the promise of redemption. This fascinating presentation and panel discussion will integrate the topics of music and brain injury rehabilitation with current research in the brain-behavior sciences, including the role of the arts in cognition and brain plasticity. Panelists will include Guy Few, OBF principal trumpet and brain injury survivor, as well as leading researchers in the field from the University of Oregon. The "Bach and the Brain" seminar is coordinated by the Teaching Research Institute (TRI)-Eugene, a division of Western Oregon University, which conducts federally-funded research and training projects in the service of children and adults with traumatic brain injury.
